Plymouth Place: Giving Back

As a not-for-profit senior living community in the LaGrange area, we take our Mission Statement quite seriously. Have you ever seen it?  It reads:

Plymouth Place™ is a retirement community, based on Christian values that honors the individual’s right to experience life to the fullest. Plymouth Place believes in the dignity and worth of each individual and the need to retain one’s own personal identity and independence.  Plymouth Place is dedicated to providing a gracious environment on campus for individuals in their retirement years as well as meeting the needs of the aging in the community at large.

It is clear to the many friends and family members who have loved ones calling Plymouth Place home, that our lifestyle supports much of what is captured above. The part about meeting the needs of the aging in the community at large may not be so evident.  Having just spent an evening serving the homeless a warm, delicious meal donated by our Dining Services team, I found myself humbled by the true commitment Plymouth Place has to help those less fortunate.  We also participate in an annual food drive for food pantries in the Chicago Western Suburbs.  Supporting job opportunities to high school students, some with disabilities and varied backgrounds is another way we stay involved.

We work with Aging Care Connections, Interfaith Community Partners for community wide events like Celebrating Seniors Week, Health Fairs and more.  A wonderful program, sponsored by Plymouth Place which is free and open to the public happened March 1st.  It was called “Disorders of the Brain – Who is There to Help”? It was conducted by Dr. Neal R. Bowen Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in neuropsychology.  It featured great information including a review of the latest research and treatment options for dementia and other neurological disorders.

Giving back through service, education and partnership with other nonprofit organizations in the community helps make Plymouth Place Senior Living a leader in the community at large.
