The Perfect Fit for Their Retirement

People from all walks of life with vast experiences, wide-ranging interests and high expectations for the future see Plymouth Place as the “perfect fit” for what they want out of life. Meet this special group of interesting, dynamic people who call Plymouth Place home.

Howard & Mary Lou LenkeHoward and Mary Lou Lenke

Howard and Mary Lou enjoy every opportunity to meet people through participating in a wide variety of activities at Plymouth Place and in the community. They love playing pool and Wii, using the fitness center and chatting with neighbors every morning while enjoying breakfast. Mary Lou volunteers through her church and at Greg’s Place, Plymouth Place’s memory support community, while Howard loves his 45-foot prized sailboat and nautical outings with their four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. La Grange has always been home to the Lenkes, and, as Howard says, they took to Plymouth Place “like ducks to water.”

Dick BestDick Best

Dick has a music studio set up in his apartment. Here you’ll find a piano, an organ and, most likely, Dick, tickling the ivories. His concerts and sing-a-longs are favorites at Plymouth Place, and outside the community, he shares his talents with three local theatre groups. Dick, whose parents were former residents, feels Plymouth Place is a smart decision for his future. “The location is great, the amenities perfect and life care gives me great peace of mind — and time for exactly what I want to do.”

Grace PiersonGrace Pierson

Grace was tired of being a maintenance contractor for her own home, so in 2005, she decided to inquire about Plymouth Place. Now a very content resident, Grace says, “Plymouth Place gives me the independence I want and the security I need.” With no more repairmen at her door, Grace fills her days with quilting, volunteering, singing at church, dinners with her daughter and traveling. “There’s hardly time for all the programs I want to attend,” she says. “Lectures, library events, movies, travel logs, cooking demonstrations. My life is so full — and I’m loving it.”

Marion GilesMarion Giles

Marion’s favorite flower is the blue lupine, but she has a passion for all flowers. “I’ve always loved the country,” Marion says, “but there came a time when I wanted to be surrounded by more activity. I moved from my home of 40 years in Wayne, IL, to Plymouth Place in 1991.” Marion enjoys the community’s beautiful landscaping, the friendly activity in The Bistro, musical programs, get-togethers with her neighbors and traveling. After recently returning from Florida, she’s back in her cheerful home waiting for those perennial lupines to appear again after a long winter.

Betty WhiteBetty White

Betty is crazy about the jigsaw puzzles on Compass, Plymouth Place’s online virtual community for residents. “Every morning, I open my laptop, log on to Compass and enter a whole new world,” she says. “I read the community news, check birthdays, answer emails from neighbors, then work on the puzzle-of-the-day.” Betty lived in Arizona and moved to Plymouth Place in 2008 to be closer to her daughter Rebecca. She volunteers at the Gift Shop, reads and attends Rebecca’s choral concerts. Not surprisingly, Betty plans to master another game in 2009 — Wii bowling, extremely popular these days at Plymouth Place!

Chertie RazimChertie Razim

Chertie and husband Ed decided on Plymouth Place seven years ago. Then the unexpected happened — Ed became ill. “We were lucky to have chosen a place where both our needs could be met,” says Chertie. Still very independent, Chertie spends time with Ed, who’s just moments away — under the same roof — at Greg’s Place, where he receives memory support services. They enjoy shopping outings and watching the Cubs together. Chertie plays bridge, knits, bakes cookies for her church and enjoys the opera, symphony and theatre. “Our situation is not perfect,” she says, “but because we planned ahead, we’re together today at Plymouth Place.”
